FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Catholic Youth Diary?
The Catholic Youth Diary was launched in 2008. It was developed following requests by teachers and parents for a Catholic version of the standard secondary school student planner.
Our school designs its own diary. We do not want a generic diary.
Every school will have its unique version of the Catholic Youth Diary. The CYD is intended as a Catholic alternative to the diary your school currently uses. It offers a redesigned core of 48 weekly planners which contain the forthcoming Sunday Gospel reading together with a reflection and prayer. It also offers other information on important events in the life of the church. The CYD has set aside 32 pages for each school to include its unique information: school rules, administration details, history, etc
Can we put our logo on the cover?
Of course. In fact, schools can design their own covers. A range of cover options is available. Click here for more information.
Does it have to be B5 size?
Many schools still use the traditional B5 size, although there has been a general move towards larger diaries. The Catholic Youth Diary comes in three sizes: B5, Quarto and A4
Dimensions:
B5 240 x 170 mm
Quarto 250 x 205 mm
A4 297 x 210 mm
Can we include important school dates throughout the diary?
Yes, schools can customise their diaries by printing their school calendar throughout the weekly planners.
It seems the Catholic Youth Diary is intended to be more than a diary it is actually an RE resource as well. With so much extra material, won't it be much more expensive?
The CYD is competitively priced. It will not be the cheapest diary on the market it was never intended to be. In most instances it will be within two or three dollars of secular alternatives and, given the amount of additional material included, provides great value for money.
Are there other prayers in the diary or just the ones accompanying the Gospel?
Schools can continue to include their selected prayers which can be printed in the customised section at the start of the diary.
Are there page restrictions?
The CYD is 136 pages:
96 pages for 48 double-paged weekly planners
8 pages of special supplements on Young People and the Church; Year of Saint Paul, Lent and Easter and Social Justice Week
32 pages for individual school material
Should a school require more pages, these are available at an additional cost.
What is the timing for ordering?
Orders will be received until late in the school year.
Is there a payment schedule?
No. There are no up-front payments. Almost all schools currently have accounts with John Garratt Publishing. Schools will be invoiced under our standard terms when the diaries are delivered.
What about delivery?
Delivery is free and will take place in the week before school resumes for first term.
Has the Catholic Youth Diary received official approval?
We have not sought official approval but we have kept church and educational authorities informed of our intentions and invited their comment and advice. We want the CYD to reflect the various vocations in Catholic education today. That is why we have as contributors bishops, priests, directors of religious education, faith development coordinators, youth ministry leaders, socials justice coordinators and, especially, religious education teachers. We have received strong encouragement from all quarters.
